It is now 1204.72 days since Thibaut and I met for the first time.
He was this tall, slender guy who looked almost too shy. He was
wearing sandals, brown pants, and this blue reebok sweater. How
we met was a mystery to everyone, but here's the half-truth.
On April 2000, my friend Amy asked me to come over to her house in
Mtn. View. Amy decided that we should let Thibaut come to her place.
I was somewhat skeptical about the idea, but she went ahead and gave
him a call. He had this kind of russian accent, but it's quite
difficult to tell because Thibaut was barely speaking most of the
time.
At around nine on April 28, Thibaut came. I was the one who looked
for him in the parking lot. His sense of direction was very good
because I thought Amy's place was difficult to find.
Here comes this very shy guy who almost couldn't look in our eyes.
He barely spoke, but we noticed that if he's on to one topic, he
could talk about it for awhile. Richard, Amy's father was very
patient listening to him--so was I.
I think I was doing my homework for my geology class when Thibaut
came over. It's nice to say that Thibaut liked that geology book
a lot. Amy was sick at that time that's why both of us were at her
place on a Friday night. We watched a couple of movies in Amy's
place. The Bone Collector and Very Bad Things just came out at that
time.
Thibaut and I decided to wrap up the wee early hours of the morning
by saying goodbye to each other at around 4 a.m. At that time, Amy
was already sleeping. We talked about all three of us going to San
Francisco or maybe going to San Simeon.
How did the dating started? Thibaut and I went to San Francisco
during that weekend. Amy couldn't come because she worked during the
weekend. We went to this bar which played very loud music. Let's
just say the whole place was just okay. Their margarita was a little
bit too sour. Afterwards, We went to the candy store and we shared
mini chocolate pretzels together. Our first cocktail was in
Peppermill. It was the perfect setting for both of us who were
about to fall inlove.
In between, Thibaut had to go to visit his family in France. I was
very surprised to find out that he really liked me. I think he
poured his efforts to create a poem in filipino just for me. It was
the sweetest but the funniest thing I have ever received on e-mail.
I think my thoughts about him changed afterwards. Maybe he was not
like the 'other guys' after all. Thibaut proved himself further when
we went to Hearst Castle. The more I spent time with him, the better
we got along. Like I said, it is now 1204.72 days since both Thibaut
and I met. I'm very glad that I met him and I know he's always
been this guy that I prayed for.
::Thibaut's thoughts about me when we first met::
"You were wearing this extra large sweater, baggy pants, and your
hair was a mess; oh, and you were wearing geeky glasses."
